Good news for Mirchi farmers from the Centre.
In response to falling chilli prices in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu approached the Centre for assistance. The Centre has announced a minimum price of ₹11,781 per quintal for chillies under the Market Intervention Scheme. These orders will be in effect for a month. Additionally, the government will cover the difference between the farming cost and selling price. Former CM Y.S. Jagan also visited the Guntur Chilli Market Yard to support farmers during this crisis.
New Delhi: With the price of chillies falling in Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu has approached the Centre to assist farmers. The Centre has announced a minimum price of ₹11,781 per quintal under the Market Intervention Scheme. The government has issued orders accordingly. This price will apply to one quintal of chillies. Due to the significant price drop, farmers have been selling their crops at a loss. From now on, the Centre will cover the difference between the farming cost and selling price.
These orders will be in effect for a month. Under the Market Intervention Scheme, the Centre has set this price and allowed the collection of 2.58 lakh metric tonnes of chillies. The orders will remain in force for a month. Recently, CM Chandrababu wrote to the Centre and spoke with the Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, about the difficulties faced by chilli farmers. In response, the Centre has announced the price for chillies.
Chilli farmers had recently expressed concerns about not receiving the support price and resorted to protests. The government immediately responded and asked the Centre to ensure justice for farmers. In the meantime, former CM Y.S. Jagan visited the Guntur Chilli Market Yard and showed his support to the farmers. Some believe the credit for this response lies with the coalition government, while others are circulating on social media that the Centre responded due to Jagan’s visit.
