Samsung confirms Unpacked event for later this month — mark your calendars!

Samsung has officially confirmed its next Unpacked event, scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, in London. The event has been rumored for months, and the confirmation sets the stage for what is expected to be a major hardware refresh for the company's foldable and wearable lineup. With just two weeks to go, enthusiasts and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating the announcements.

Event Details

The event will take place in London, a somewhat unusual venue for Samsung, which has typically held Unpacked events in cities like New York, San Francisco, or Barcelona. The choice of London may signal a shift in marketing strategy or simply a desire to emphasize the global nature of the launch. Regardless of location, the event will be live-streamed worldwide, starting at 2 PM BST (9 AM Eastern, 6 AM Pacific).

Expected Devices

As is customary for summer Unpacked events, Samsung is expected to unveil its latest generation of foldable phones and smartwatches. However, this year's event is particularly notable because of a rumored expansion of the foldable lineup. Instead of the usual two models—Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip—Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce a third foldable: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with an extra-wide form factor. This device is said to feature a significantly larger inner display when unfolded, approaching a nearly square aspect ratio that could make it more versatile for multitasking and media consumption.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Fold 8 Ultra

According to leaks and rumors, Samsung will launch two versions of the large foldable: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to be the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, maintaining the traditional tall and narrow outer display. In contrast, the standard Z Fold 8 will sport the new wider design, which some believe is inspired by the Pixel Fold and OnePlus Open. The wider format could improve usability when the phone is folded, making the cover screen feel more like a traditional smartphone. Samsung has been teasing this shift through a series of Instagram posts showing a tall rectangle transforming into a shorter, squatter rectangle—a clear visual metaphor for the new design philosophy.

The hardware specifications for both devices are still largely speculative, but early rumors suggest they will be powered by the next-generation Exynos or Snapdragon processors, depending on the region. The cameras are expected to see improvements, possibly including a new periscope zoom lens for the Ultra model. Battery capacity and charging speeds may also receive upgrades to compete with rivals like the Honor Magic V3 and the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4.

Galaxy Z Flip 8

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to make an appearance. While the Flip series has been relatively stable in design, incremental improvements are anticipated. The new model may feature a larger cover screen, similar to the Motorola Razr+, along with enhanced camera capabilities and better durability. Samsung is likely to continue its partnership with Corning for Gorilla Glass Victus protection. The Flip 8 is expected to be priced competitively to maintain its position as the best-selling foldable clamshell phone globally.

Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2

Beyond foldables, Samsung is preparing to launch two new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 9 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The Watch 9 is expected to succeed the Watch 8, offering minor design refinements and a new health sensor that could monitor blood glucose levels non-invasively, pending regulatory approvals. The Watch Ultra 2, a follow-up to the first-generation rugged watch, will likely feature a more durable titanium case, longer battery life, and advanced outdoor tracking features. Both watches are expected to run One UI Watch based on Wear OS 5, with tighter integration with Samsung Health and Google Fit.

Galaxy Buds On and Reservations

If speculation proves correct, Samsung might also unveil a new pair of true wireless earbuds called the Galaxy Buds On. Details are scarce, but they could replace the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro with improved active noise cancellation, spatial audio, and longer battery life. Additionally, Samsung has opened reservations for the upcoming devices. Customers who register now can earn a $30 pre-order credit, with the possibility of saving up to $1,230 through trade-in offers. These incentives are designed to build early momentum and lock in buyers ahead of the official launch.

The July event comes just a few weeks before Google's planned Pixel 11 launch on August 12, setting up a competitive summer for high-end Android devices. Samsung's foldable lineup is particularly crucial as the company seeks to maintain its lead in the foldable market, which is seeing increasing competition from Chinese brands like Huawei, Oppo, and Honor, as well as from Google itself. The introduction of a wider Fold model could help Samsung address criticism that its foldables have been too narrow when closed, a common complaint among users who switch from slab phones.

The animated teaser released by Samsung further reinforces the new form factor. The image shows a tall rectangle morphing into a shorter, wider shape, directly hinting at the redesigned aspect ratio. This visual language aligns with Samsung's earlier Instagram posts and suggests the company is confident that the wider design will appeal to a broader audience, including productivity users who rely on split-screen multitasking.

With only two weeks until the event, more details are expected to leak in the coming days. However, the confirmed date and location give consumers and industry watchers a clear timeline for what could be one of the most significant Samsung hardware launches of the year. The combination of new foldables, smartwatches, and possibly earbuds indicates that Samsung is doubling down on its ecosystem strategy, creating a seamless experience across devices. As the event approaches, anticipation will only intensify.
